M2 Academic Journal Blog Assignment
The online source that I
reviewed is called The American Indian Cultural Center and Museum and was
created by the Native American Cultural and Educational Authority (NACEA) upon
establishment through the Oklahoma Legislature. According to the mission statement,
the center was constructed for the purpose of generating awareness and
understanding of the history of tribes and their relationship to Oklahoma
today. The founding state agency also seeks to promote this awareness to all
people of the Oklahoma American Indian cultures and heritage. The perspective or
message that this online reference is meant to convey to its readers is to
place emphasis that a legitimate organization founded by the Oklahoma
Legislation created a center with the sole purpose to preserve the culture and
heritage of the American Indian tribes of Oklahoma and serve to educate and
clear any misconceptions or presumptions to anyone expressing an interest. This
can easily be determined through the centers mission statement.
I believe these web resources were selected and put specifically
into this course to promote awareness of reliable Native American educational institutions
that exists to educate anyone expressing an interest in Native American customs,
traditions, and beliefs. This can be noted directly in the mission statement of
the source I reviewed and in other mission statements or objectives of the online
resources presented in the module. For example, the Jake Thomas Learning Centre
objective is “to establish a historical and current library resource centre
whereby educators from all over the world can come to research and learn firsthand
about the history and development of the Iroquoian people”. It also states that
it seeks “to promote the knowledge of Iroquoian culture and language”. On
another resource provided and leading to the National Museum of the American Indian,
their philosophy also shares the same mission in which they bring “native
voices to what the museum writes and presents” and “serving the greater public
as an honest and thoughtful conduit to native cultures”. Hence, we see the
correlation between these institutions and their intentions.
What makes a quality academic website is its credibility
and trustworthiness. I believe that the source I selected is of quality due to
its history on how and by who it was founded. The information that I read thus
far hasn’t changed my views of native communities. It only exposed me to the
existence of reliable Native American educational institutions.

Hi Enrique, does your account show your name. Either input it into the blog post or update your account so that others know who is posting. Good content on The American Indian Center. The museum in DC is my favorite, but all museums are important to remind people of our ancestors, who lived on this land prior to us. Nn
ReplyDeleteHi Enrique, It is hard to figure out which resources are credible and have correct information. As I was doing my research on the tribes voice I am doing my reflexivity project on there was contradicting information mostly about whose responsibility farming was the man or woman's. Usually in Native American culture farming is the responsibility of women but in two different websites I found it was the man's responsibility and then in others it states it is the women's responsibility. It was difficult in deciding which information was correct.
